It's New Year's Eve at the Steamie. Time for the last “washin' o' the year”. Time for a wee crack and a laugh i' yer pals. Time for a greet an' a “wee nippie” tae cheer ye a' up or droon yer sorrows.
The women of the Steamie come together and in turn tell us something of themselves – their lives, loves, hopes and disappointments. We laugh with them one moment, despair the next and cry as well.
"The Steamie” gives a rare glimpse of the lives of ordinary women of Glasgow, or indeed any other Scottish city, in the early 20th century - how they were treated, what was expected of them and how they themselves felt.
