MAYHEM & MADNESS AT THE ABBEY THEATRE...

The ladies of the Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen's Guild Dramatic Society, along with some fellas, are taking part in the first round of the Townswomen's Guild Drama Festival Area Finals.

Not everything goes according to plan, in fact very little is as rehearsed but they continue undaunted much to the amusement of the audience and the amazement of the adjudicator who is quite a turn in himself.

Anyone who has seen one of the ladies' productions before will know what a treat they are in for.

The original version was first presented in 1976 at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. This revised version was then presented at the fringe in 1983 with both playwrights taking part.

AT THE ABBEY THEATRE IT’S NEVER TOO LATE …

What happens when your husband leaves you for a younger woman? How do you kick-start your life when you've never had to work? How do you cope with the realisation that time is not on your side?

Susan Shaw, in her fifties, finds herself in exactly this position. She's run the home, brought up her daughter and had a very busy life involved with charities and village-hall committees. What does she do now?

Fellow committee members offer all kinds of advice: think selfishly? Resurrect an old flame? Get a job, get fit, get a toy-boy. . .

Susan decides to take action, and this very funny and, at times, very tender play, follows Susan as she attempts a new start in life in the belief that 'it's never too late', and finds herself presented with a most surprising choice to make.

Fast and funny, “It’s Never Too Late” by Ron Aldridge will have you fighting back the tears as you accompany Susan on her journey from abandoned housewife to liberated woman.
