Arms and the Man by George Bernard Shaw Produced by Frank Gilbert
Monday, March 28, 2005 to Saturday, April 09, 2005
Tickets go on sale: Monday, March 14, 2005
Arms and the Man by George Bernard Shaw, an anti-romantic comedy, was the
first of Shaw’s many plays to be performed publicly. It is great fun and
ridicules the “higher” or romantic love, which is totally over the top, in
favour of true love, which know no boundaries. It also takes a comical
look at the mythical glories of soldiering. One of Shaw’s “Plays
Pleasant” and one of his more accessible plays, it has wonderful
characters for both actors and audience to enjoy and a plot full of twists
and turns.
Oscar Straus borrowed the story for his operetta “The Chocolate Soldier”
which he wrote in 1908.
The play is produced by Frank Gilbert and as well as several familiar
faces introduces new members to the Abbey Theatre Club.
